19 - 26, 2008

A field course that examines coral reef ecosystems including its biology, geologic setting, chemical and physical characteristics, and its relation to global climate change and sustainable management of a valuable coastal resource. It is designed for students who are SCUBA divers and interested in the ecology of reef systems. We presume that you like the outdoors and like warm, tropical water, and that you want to see for yourself this magnificent ecosystem. Questions and individual observations drive the course.

Days are spent diving. We do dives from boats and from shore as part of student-directed research projects that utilize biologic censussing and other field procedures and evaluation / presentation of the results. Lecture / discussions occur on the boat or on shore.
